Beat of the Heartland featuring Devine Carama

As part of Roots & Heritage’s virtual lineup, the Lexington Philharmonic is thrilled to present Beat of the Heartland, a collaborative performance with Lexington Hip-Hop artist and activist Devine Carama! Originally recorded on June 12, 2021 at the Loudoun House, this concert features the music of Devine Carama accompanied by a LexPhil string quintet, local poets and vocalists.

“I was honored to be the first hip hop artist ever to perform with the Lexington Philharmonic. I hope that this cross genre collaboration will inspire Lexington children, of all races, to think outside of the box and to never put restrictions on their dreams.”- Devine Carama

“Working with Devine on Beat of the Heartland was such an honor and thrill for LexPhil! Devine’s commitment to authenticity, community and the power of music to move and unite is deeply inspiring. We hope you enjoy the experience and music of Beat of the Heartland as much as we did!” – Kelly Corcoran, LexPhil Interim Artistic Advisor

Beat of the Heartland was made possible with generous support from the Lexington Philharmonic Foundation, LexArts, the Kentucky Arts Council, Hamilton Saykaly Garbulinska Foundation, the Blue Grass Community Foundation, and the League of American Orchestras’ Futures Fund.
